Australia Post Shipping

ShipPlus allows your WooCommerce store to integrate with Australia Post. It showcase shipping rates by API automatically.

With ShipPlus, you can manage domestic and international parcel.

Shipping Requirements

You will need fulfil below requirements to integrate ShipPlus with Australia Post,

  1. Set your store’s base location to Australia
  2. Change your store’s currency to Australian Dollars
  3. Set Dimensions to MKS (CM for length, KG for weight and Second for time)
  4. Access your API Key

API Key

Follow below steps to get your API key,

    • A MyPost account – Make sure you have a MyPost account and use it to log in to Developer Portal or create a MyPost account.
    • A parcel contract – The Shipping and Tracking APIs are only available to contract customers, so you’ll need a parcel contract with Australia Post or be working with a customer that has one.
    • A preferred integration method – Before you start, decide whether you’ll be building a solution in-house, or using a platform partner. If you’re not sure, check out our integration methods in the section below.

Configuration Steps

You will need to follow below steps to connect your store with Australia Post,

  1. Shipping Setup
  2. Packaging Setup
  3. Services Setup

Shipping Setup

Follow the below steps to start ShipPlus and Australia Post integration,

  • Check your store’s base location and default currency as Australia & AUD
  • Go to WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping
  • Click on Add Shipping Zone
  • Give name to your zone
  • Assign a location to zone
  • Click on save zone
  • After you have saved zone settings
  • Click on add Shipping method
  • Select Australia Post
  • Choose Australia Post & Click on add method
  • Save zone settings
  • You will see an active Australia Post Shipping zone is created.
  • We will now configure shipping method’s packaging and service setup.

Packaging Setup

After you have completed shipping setup, you will need to setup packaging setup. Packaging setup will help you decide how your products should be packaged for shipping rate calculation.

Australia Post allows you to package orders based on various properties, You will need to choose your preferred one for am active zone.

  1. Australia Post Prepaid Satchels
  2. Individual Packed Order
  3. Combined Weight Order
  4. Corrugated Box Order
  5. Group Order

How to configure Packaging setup?

Follow the below steps to configure your packaging setup with available options,

  1. Open the shipping zone you want to customise
  2. Open Australia post shipping method
  3. You will find packaging setup section in the edit page.

Australia Post Prepaid Satchels

With Australia Post Shipping, you can access prepaid satchels for your account and display shipping prices for predefined satchel dimensions.

To activate satchel rates, follow the below steps.

Australia Post provides satchel rates based on total weight and dimension. Also, satchel rates can be divided into categories like  parcel, express and international. 

Based on what services you are activating for shipping zone, satchel price rates may vary. But the dimensions and weight will not change. You can opt for satchel weights between 500g to 5Kg.

How to configure Prepaid satchel setup?

As shown in above image, Go to Zone settings > Edit Zone

You will find 2 options named,

  • Prepaid Satchel Rates – Activate and click on save to use prepaid satchel 
  • Satchel Conditions – Choose your preferred condition to make prepaid satchel rates work with other packaging setup.

Individual Packed Order

Individual packaging option will do not add any additional calculations to your checkout page.

It will simply send all the product separately to Australia Post API and display a total shipping cost.

Total Shipping Cost in Individual Packed order will be a total of all the product’s shipping charges separately.

Combined Weight Order

Combined weight order will calculate the total weight of the products in the cart and send weight data of the cart to Australia Post Shipping to calculate and display shipping charges based on weight.

You will need to decide a maximum weight of the package with combined weight order. If the cart exceeds the limit, ShipPlus will pack remaining items in another box for calculations.

Corrugated Box Order

With corrugated box order, you can choose a dimension of box and products will be assigned inside a box according to their volume at checkout.

How to setup Corrugated Box Order?

After you have chosen corrugated box orders, you will need to add a box group details.

  • Box Group Name – You can assign a name to the box group
  • Box Type – You can choose what type of packaging group should be considered as.
  • Box Packaging Inner Dimension – Assign a box dimension that will be used as packaging dimension. It will be a limiting dimension to for product’s size.
  • Box Shipping Outer Dimension – Assign a box’s dimension that will be used by Australia Post to determine shipping rates
  • Empty box weight – It is the weight of an empty box that will be added to total weight in shipping calculations
  • Weight capacity – It is the total weight capacity of the box.

Group Order

With group order, you can make group of packaging setup for your orders.

With ShipPlus, you can group prepaid satchel rates with individual packed order, combined weight order and corrugated box order.

To make a group, you will need to choose your preferred shipping method and activate prepaid satchel rates with a condition. It will make your checkout page more flexible with orders.

Recommended Packaging Setup

Follow the below categories that will help you decide what category of packaging setup should you use.

  1. If you have a large dimension products with heavy weights, you should prefer using individual packing order
  2. If you have a smaller products with very less weight and your cart total does not increase upto 5kg, you should prefer using prepaid satchels.
  3. If you do not have a complex cart and generally you have same dimension product orders under a fixed weight then you can use combined weight.
  4. If you have a complex cart and get orders with wide range of dimensions and weight then you should use combined order (satchel rates with corrugated box order). We always recommend using this option with your required satchel condition.

Services Setup

After your shipping and packaging setup is done, you will need to assign services.

Your store’s customer can receive the services which you activate for shipping zone.

You will find the list of services that Australia post shipping will provide in the last section of customising zone.

Enable the services you want to provide. and you can customise available services furthermore with ShipPlus.

Services Options

  • Service Names – Add a name that will be displayed to customers for selected service.
  • Signature Verification – Customer will be opt to verify a signature at delivery
  • Insurance – Add extra coverage of shipping with increased price.
  • Increment – You can add a percentage or flat fee to shipping prices. Leave it blank to not add any increment.

Increments will be added as a flat fee or a percentage. If shipping charges are a “X” amount and fees are “Y” amount then flat fees will be added “X + Y”. And, percentage fees will be added “X + (Y%ofX)”.

Handling Fees Setup

You will need to use Increment services options to add handling feeds. With ShipPlus, you can add handlings feeds with 2 formats,

  1. Flat Feeds
  2. Percentage Based Fees
